It is vital to know what LASIK surgery really is before one can have a full understanding of how it is done. Laser In Situ Keratomileusis or more often referred to as LASIK is called as a “procedure that permanently changes the shape of the cornea; the clear covering of the front part of the eye”. Its top objective is to aid in terminating the dependency of people in corrective eyewear such as contacts and/or glasses.

Approximately half an hour is all it takes to complete the surgery. In the same area where the hardware is located, the patient is placed on a reclining chair. The surgeon will place an eye drop numbing liquid once the patient is in position. The surgery site will then be completely prepared and cleaned.

During the San Diego Lasik Surgery procedure, the doctor will keep the patient’s eyes from closing by using a speculum. Then, a type of ring is applied to the eye and high amounts of pressure will be applied, creating a suction effect on the cornea. During this part of the operation, only a small amount of discomfort and/or pressure will be experienced by the patient.

Then, the surgeon will attach a Microkeratome, which is a cutting type of instrument, to the metal ring that is already affixed to the eye. Using this device, a small incision will be made into the cornea. At this point in the procedure, the patient will be numbed and most likely feel no pain.
