Ok, the stats are done. Mobil 1 STILL doesn’t match AMSOIL (even with their new EP product). In comparison testing done August of 2005 against 10 major brand dino & synthetic oils, AMSOIL’s product was found to be the clear victor, even over the new and “amaaaaazing” Mobil 1 EP synthetic oil. You can see the findings for yourself on the BestSyntheticOil.com site. But, for now, here are some highlights:

* Mobil 1 Evaporates 38% More Quickly Than AMSOIL Does
* Mobil 1 Synthetic Permits 18% Greater Cold Start Friction
* Mobil 1 Synthetic Permits 22% MORE Wear

Moreover, on the TFOUT test procedure, the “Thin Film Oxygen Uptake Test” (ASTM D-4742), that provides an extremely good correlation to drain interval capability of a motor oil, AMSOIL Synthetic Oil exceeded the 500 minute cut-off with top marks, while the Mobil 1 fell short at only 469 min.. Of course, 469 minutes is quite a bit better than most other oils, so you’ve got to give Mobil 1 EP,the Mobil product at least SOME credit. However, the AMSOIL product could most likely have lasted longer. Unfortunately, since the Thin Film Oxygen Uptake test specifications keep the test run time to only 500 min, we were cut short of discovering just exactly how long the AMSOIL Synthetic Oil could really go.

Regardless, it is of little importance. AMSOIL synthetic oil offers far better engine wear protection, better cold temp performance, minimal high temperature evaporation as well as longer guaranteed extended drain intervals.
